Maci Ryder

When I was 9 years old, I watched the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for the first time and I thought to myself, "I want to be like those girls when I grow up". Ever since then, I have dreamed of becoming a model. I was a very tall kid growing up, and heard the comment "You should model!" from friends and family very often, so the dream was only further reassured that I could do it. Time goes by, and I was rejected from multiple agencies that I had applied to at 16. My hopes were crushed, the dream began to fade, and I simply gave up. It wasn't until January of 2022 that I told myself, "Maci, if you want something, you cannot expect it to just fall into your lap, you have to work for it." So that's exactly what I did. I started working on myself, both physically, mentally, and emotionally, then gathered up the nerve to give it another shot. My skin grew a lot thicker in those 4 years between my last rejection and that point of wanting to try again, so even if that attempt of trying again failed, I was not going to give up no matter what. I applied to Wilhelmina Denver as a junior in college at Colorado State University in March of 2022. Within the next month, I had a signed contract with them as a model. I was on top of the world, my dream was coming true, and I knew that was only the beginning. I had my first job shortly after with Dooney and Bourke and let me tell you, when I saw that casting come into my inbox, I did not think I would get the job due to my experience in the industry being a big fat zero! I was shocked when I got chosen for that job and loved every second of that shoot. Shortly after, my agent reached out and asked how I would feel about runway. My eyes lit up like the Christmas tree in Times Square, runway has been my dream since I was 9 years old. I began training for runway in October of 2022 and hope to keep pursuing that aspect of my modeling career. My time in college is coming to an end, I am graduating in May of 2023 with 3 degrees at the age of 21; an Associates Degree in Business Marketing, Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, and a Minor in American Sign Language. I am moving back to warm and sunny California in May and cannot wait to take my career to the next level here in the Golden state. My life is only beginning, I am young, educated, and more determined than ever to take this dream of mine to the next level and make a difference in this world.
